Red Cross helps family displaced by fire

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - The American Red Cross is helping two people and a child who lost most of their possessions in a fire late Thursday night. The Beaufort Fire Department responded to the fire and asked the Red Cross to help the family.

The Red Cross arranged for a temporary place for them to stay. They also provided comfort kits that included items such as toiletries and were given funds to help replace clothing. The child was also given a stuffed animal. Red Cross mental health and health services will follow up with the family.

So far this year, the Red Cross has helped 794 people in the seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties.
