Cracking down on impaired drivers

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) – Lots of people are hitting the roads for the long holiday weekend and that also means more police officers on patrol.

Garden City Police got an early start on the roads, watching out for drivers who may be drinking and driving.

"My main goal is always safety," said Sgt. Shawn Myers of Garden City Police. "There's a lot of motorist out here that aren't anticipating other drivers being intoxicated, the last thing I want is for some family to be traveling home and have their night ruined, and changed forever by someone who was drinking and driving, so hopefully we can prevent that."

By 10 pm Friday, night Garden City police had already arrested one woman. They tell us she was driving under the influence with her seven week old child in the car.
