Coast Guard rescues seven off SC coast

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Seven boaters were rescued Sunday morning, after abandoning their sinking vessel off the South Carolina coast.

The Coast Guard rescued four adults and three children that jumped ship, when their 38-foot powerboat began taking on water 30 miles from shore.

Two Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin rescue helicopter crews from Air Station Savannah hoisted the stranded boaters to safety, and transported them to the Medical University of South Carolina.

A C-130 air crew from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and the crew of the Charleston based 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Yellowfin assisted in the search.
