NWS: Savannah hit hottest summer ever recorded

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -  This summer was the warmest summer on record in Savannah, according to the National Weather Service.

The meteorological summer is defined as June, July and August. In Savannah, the average temperature for that three-month summer period was 83.9 degrees, which was the warmest summer on record.

Data from the NWS show how the summer of 2010 compared to other warm summers since record keeping began for the Savannah area in 1874:

In Savannah, temperatures hit or exceeded 90 degrees on 75 days during the summer of 2010. That tied the most 90-degree summer days ever measured in the Savannah area during the summer months.

The second longest stretch of days that were 90 degrees or higher was July 6 through Aug. 14. Temperatures in Savannah hit 95 degrees or higher on 37 days during the summer of 2010.
