Denver Simmons pleads guilty

WALTERBORO, SC (WTOC) - Continuing in court, the man accused of killing a mother, and her son three years ago, says he did it.

Denver Simmons plead guilty in a Colleton County courtroom Wednesday afternoon.

Solicitor Duffie Stone says Simmons was renting property, owned by Sheila Dodd, one of his victims.

After Dodd evicted him, for not paying rent, he killed her, picked her son up from school, and killed him as well.

It all happened in May 2007.

On Wednesday Simmons apologized for what he did.

"I'd just like to take this opportunity, take full responsibility, no one helped other than myself. Again I'm very sorry for your loss," said Simmons.

Simmons plead guilty to two counts of murder, as well as grand larceny for stealing Dodd's car, forgery for cashing a forged check belonging to Dodd, and possession of a gun during a violent crime.

He was given two consecutive life sentences for the murders, and five years for the other offenses.

He has no chance to appeal.
