EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) - On Wednesday the United Way of the Coastal Empire kicked off their efforts announcing a combined four county goal of $8 million.
Officials with the Effingham chapter of the United Way pledged a goal of $270,000 to the cause. They say with the down economy they are seeing an increase in needs come through their doors.
"Our numbers are up, 30 percent higher than where the numbers were last year. There's just a greater need in the community and this is a way to pull together and give back," said the United Way of Effingham Chairperson Julie Hales.
WTOC's own Mike Cihla was there to help kick off the event. If you would like to donate, visit www.uwce.org.
