HAAF's triathlon set for Sept. 19

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's just five days until the Rock of the Marne triathlon at Hunter Army Airfield.

Last year, more than 150 racers participated in this 500-yard swim, 13-mile bike ride, and 5K run and this year is expected to be bigger.

The triathlon involves a 500-yard swim in the Forest River, a 13-mile bike route around Perimeter Road and a 5K run to Rio Road bike path and back.

Rock of the Marne started in 1979 and is the first triathlon on the mainland of the United States. Leigh White and Sam Metzger were last year's winners. All the proceeds benefit soldiers and their families.
