Imperial worker gets burned from steam

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Port Wentworth Fire Department responded to a call at the Imperial Sugar Refinery at about 3 p.m. Monday.

Imperial Sugar Refinery officials said one of their employees was slightly injured after being exposed to steam while working in the refinery. Plant manager Thomas Rathke said the employee received first degree burns on his nose, cheek and the side of his face.

Rathke said the employee was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure where he was treated and released.
