SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – The National Weather Service and the Chatham Emergency Management Agency will be offering a Basic Storm Spotter Class.
The free training class takes place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Chatham County Annex at 295 Police Memorial Dr. in Savannah. Space is limited. Reserve a spot in the class by Oct. 25.
Weather spotters help the NWS to warn their communities about possible severe weather.
The training session will last about 90 minutes and will focus on preparing individuals to report severe weather including funnel clouds, tornadoes, hail, damaging wind and flooding rainfall. The importance of weather safety when observing and reporting critical weather will be discussed.
CEMA and the Charleston NWS Office plan to schedule an advanced storm spotter class shortly after the basic class. A pre-requisite for the advanced class is to take (or have taken) the basic storm spotter class.
To reserve a seat, email Dustin Hetzel at firstname.lastname@example.org. Those interested in an advanced storm spotter class can email Dustin with the email subject: Advanced Storm Spotter Class.
