PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - Naval Hospital Beaufort is officially going tobacco free. On Thursday, they held a wellness fair with all kinds of exhibits and screenings to kick off this new initiatiative that starts today. Navy officials are hoping this step will keep their patients and their staff healthier.

"There are so many benefits from not smoking and living a helthy lifestyle so here at this facility we want to do that, prevent them from even having to come to our facility by not smoking, eating right, watching their diet and exercising," said Capt. Joan Queen, Naval Hospital Beaufort Commanding Officer.

This tobacco ban is all part of a Navy-wide initiative that started back in 2009 to make all treatment centers tobacco free.
