CALLAWASSI ISLAND, SC (WTOC) -It was quite a day for fourth grade teacher Tennille Scheriff as she was named Beaufort County School District's Teacher of the Year.
"I am in total awe and shock, but I'm so grateful to represent Beaufort County, the teachers and the families and students," said Scheriff.
She's a teacher at The Hilton Head Island School for the Creative Arts and is now in her thirteenth year of teaching.
"I have a passion for the kids," said Tennille. "I love watching them grow and blossom into human beings that are going to contribute back and the excitement and joy they bring back to me each day it's awesome."
"Her heart is teaching, whether they are little or upper elementary, they all want to be in her room, parents want their children to be in here room," said Gretchen Keefner, Principal at HHI School for the Creative Arts.
"Our motto at our school is that every child's a masterpiece. It takes a master to make a masterpiece and Tennille truly exemplifies a teacher of the year. She's a master teacher."
With this new title comes the keys to a new BMW to drive around for a year, courtesy of Hilton Head Automotive.
"Oh my goodness, oh wow," exclaimed Tennille as she got into the BMW.
"I"m very excited about this new car," said Tennille. "It's my first new car ever. My own car has been to the shop three times this month so it comes at a great time."
If all of this wasn't enough, just recently her school was just selected as a John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts National Schools of Distinction in Arts Education award winner.
"Oh man, good things come in threes, I think we're maxed out," said Tennille.
She is currently per suing her PHD and has ten years of military service to our country. She served in the Army Reserves and The National Guard..
During Friday's annual event at Callawassi, top teachers from each school in the Beaufort County School District were honored as well.
