Garden City marks 1 year of curbside recycling

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) – Garden City recognizes the one year anniversary of its curbside recycling program.

Since the program's launch, the city has collected an estimated 228 tons of material, exceeding all expectations and making a dual impact on both the environment and economy in Chatham County, according to the City of Garden City.

Goods that can be recycled in Garden City include: glass, tin, aluminum, plastics, cardboard, newspapers, office paper, magazines and telephone directories.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Georgia ranks No. 2 in the nation's recycling industry.

  • Garden City residences between Ga. 21 and U.S. 80 have curbside recycling service on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.
  • North of Ga. 21 and south of U.S. 80, have curbside recycling service on the first and third Thursdays each month.
  • If a holiday falls on a Thursday, the collection takes the Wednesday before.
