SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah is one step closer to getting a new water park. On Friday, developers with Pirate's Cove Water Park broke ground on the $12.5 million attraction.

It will be located on West Gateway Blvd., that's along I-95 and Ga. Highway 204 behind The Shell House and Savannah Harley Davidson.

Jennifer Hagan with Savannah Harley Davidson said, "We are excited, they want us to get involved in it, hoping they'll get a Harley slide, that would be pretty cool, but of course it will draw attention to us."

Pirate's Cove co-owner Jim Martin said the water park will be a "Disney-like" experience that the whole family can enjoy, and Martin says Savannah and nearby businesses will enjoy the economic boost this park will bring.

"The most exciting thing to me right now are the economic impacts of this project," Martin said. "The impact of the tourism we feel like this will generate for this city is extremely exciting."

The park is scheduled to open next spring and will employ up to 200 seasonal workers.
