METTER, GA (WTOC) -More than hundred golfers took to the links to support those who serve and protect and the families they could leave behind.

The Bulloch County Sheriff's Office hosted their annual COPS golf tournament. COPS stands for Concerns Over Police Survivors, a nationwide organization that helps families of law officers killed in the line of duty. Organizers said law officers share a bond different from most professions.

"The death sometimes makes it stronger because you don't realize what you have until you lose that person, that good friend," explained Deputy Ed Akins. "You may have a squabble in the squadroom, but as soon as he or she gets on the radio for help, all that is forgotten."

Bulloch County holds the tournament in memory of Sgt. Wilbur Berry, who was killed in 2001.
