SAVANNAH, GA(WTOC) – Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police have arrested a man who rammed into a police cruiser with a car containing drugs.

Alphonso Henneghan Sr., 48, was arrested Sunday morning after fleeing from police, damaging a police car, fighting with officers following a foot-chase and driving a car filled with bags of drugs, according to police.

Henneghan is being charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, attempting to take a law enforcement weapon, felony obstruction, sale of a controlled substance, possession, DUI and striking an unattended vehicle.

Just after 12 a.m., officers were dispatched to a call at West 41st Street and Desoto Avenue.  After being located in a parking lot and signaled to stop, Henneghan, who was driving a green Chevrolet Malibu, accelerated and struck a parked vehicle – He then put his car in reverse and backed into a police car as the officer was attempting to exit the vehicle.

Henneghan left his car, jumped across the patrol car's hood, and attempted to flee – Two officers managed to catch the man, who then fought and attempted to grab both a gun and baton.

After subduing the suspect, officers found multiple bags of drugs on the ground where the fight took place, and in Henneghan's vehicle.

Henneghan was transported to Memorial Hospital and is under guard. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
