TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - Tybee Island firefighters continuing their investigation into how a blaze started on the beach.
It happened around three Sunday afternoon in some sand dunes near 19th street off Chatham Avenue.
Fire fighters were able to knock down the flames in five minutes.
Many palms trees had been scorched by the fire, but fortunately it didn't spread.
"We had flames 20 feet in the air or higher. It was jeopardizing the boardwalk, and the houses in the area." said Chief Skip Sasser of Tybee Island Fire Dept.
Investigators still aren't sure how the fire started.
