SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Fatal car crashes involving distracted drivers are on the decline.
The U.S. Dept. of Transportation said that last year 5474 people were killed because of distracted driving. that's down 6 percent from 2008 when 5800 people were killed.
Distractions can include texting while driving which has been outlawed in Georgia and other states. Transportation secretary Ray LaHood said distractions are a real problem and remains an epidemic. To combat it, LaHood will kick off the second summit on distracted driving on Tuesday.
