POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. painted the interior of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum's B-17 "City of Savannah," and return it to its original color.
Gulfstream employees will be donating their time and expertise to paint the aircraft on Wednesday with the company's equipment.
The project is part of the museum's restoration project. The "City of Savannah" B-17 is on display inside the museum's Combat Gallery while it is undergoing a total restoration. The aircraft is in Phase 3 of its restoration, where crews are focusing on the interior of the, "City of Savannah," according to Gulfstream.
The Eighth Air Force, which was activated in 1942 in Savannah, was a critical strike element in World War II and remains an active force today.
