Garden project becomes part of curriculum

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Students at the Scott Learning Center are putting the final touches on a project that began last Spring. A former overgrown section of a school for troubled teens has been converted into a flower and vegetable garden.

"We kept the garden going through summer school, through July 23. Students would come out here before summer school and weed and water and harvest," Scott English Teacher Karen Malofy told WTOC. "We shared our first crop of radishes with Starfish Cafe and the students and the staff shared the produce through the rest of the summer school."

The garden will be incorporated into Scott's curriculum and is also peaceful place for students to enjoy lunch during the school day.
