Police: Security guard stole copper from site he patrolled

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) – A security guard was arrested in connection with a copper theft at a construction site where he patrolled.

Police were called on Sept. 3 and Sept. 9 to a construction site at 12 Pettigrew Plantation Rd. in Palmetto Bluff Plantation on a report that copper tubing had been stolen. In the first incident, more than $800 worth of copper was stolen and more than $2,000 worth of copper was taken the second time.

Police said Jerrod Chisolm, 29, of Bluffton, who worked a security guard with Norred & Associates at Palmetto Bluff Plantation, stole the copper.

Chisolm was charged with petit larceny with the first incident and grand larceny for the second incident. The copper tubing was sold at a metal scrap yard in Savannah and was not recovered, according to police.

Chisolm was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing.
