Anti-fraud program aimed check scams to launch

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A new program will be announced Tuesday that aims to protect Georgia consumers from fake check scams.

The Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs, Consumer Federation of America, the Georgia Bankers Association, and Georgia Credit Union Affiliates plan to announce the program at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Atlanta.

The news conference go into what fake check scams are and how they work, show examples of fake checks used in these scams, identify the misconceptions about checks that lead to scams, detail a new partnership with participating banks and credit unions in Georgia to provide consumers with the information they need to avoid victimization.

Speakers include: Susan Grant, director of consumer protection, Consumer Federation of America; Anne Infinger, deputy administrator, Georgia Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs; Joe Brannen, president and CEO, Georgia Bankers Association; Cindy Connelly, senior vice president of association services, Georgia Credit Union Affiliates.
