Huge pumpkin headed to River Street

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - It's almost October and that means it's time for pumpkins.

Charlie Stokes, owner of Stokes Produce in Garden City, has been supplying residents in the Coastal Empire with all types of pumpkins for years. Every year, he buys two huge pumpkins. One weighs more than 500 pounds. He gets them from Pennsylvania. Stokes was asked how many pies can be made from it.

"I have no idea. I would imagine seven or 800 pies. It takes two cups to make a pie, so they say," he said.

Stokes said they're loading up the massive gourd and taking it to River Street for Oktoberfest. It'll be out there all weekend in front of Savannah's Candy Kitchen.
