SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A few hundred 3rd ID soldiers are home after a long deployment.
About 200 soldiers with the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade returned to Hunter Army Airfield early Thursday morning. Loved ones raced onto the Tarmac at about 3:30 a.m. to welcome their soldiers' home. These veterans spent the last year in Afghanistan supporting operation enduring freedom. The unit deployed with 100 helicopters.
"This is the easy job. Going away is the easy job. We have a focused mission, and we are free from distractions for the most part. they have to maintain everything on the home front. They pick up the mommy and daddy job, and i give all the credit to them, all these families. They support the soldiers," said 1st Sgt. Matthew Osborne, of the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade.
An estimated 3,000 soldiers of the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade are expected to return home in October and early November.
