Lawmakers discuss jets' future in Beaufort

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) – U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson will hold a press conference Monday to discuss the future of new jets in Beaufort.

The marine corps will use the F-35 Joint Strike Fighters to replace the F-18 Hornets currently flown out of Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. Graham and Wilson are optimistic that, if chosen, MCAS Beaufort is well prepared to support the F-35B squadrons.

Graham and Wilson held discussions of the F-35 mission at 10 a.m. at the Beaufort Chamber of Commerce. The air station already pumps $615 million a year into the local economy and if Beaufort is chosen as a training site for the new jet, that impact is expected to grow.
