GUM BRANCH, GA (WTOC) - Tears and words flowed from Lori Arrowood's husband, Nathon, as he spoke at her funeral. They'd known each other less than 18 months, but he called her the best person he'd ever met.

"I still can't understand how I could love somebody so much and it could still grow," he said to those gathered. "She was the best thing to happen to me."

A love of horses, the outdoors and country living brought them together. Friends wore t-shirts, jeans and boots to pay tribute. Many of those friends came from an extended military family. Sgt. Nathon Arrowood and his unit were deployed at the time of Lori's murder. During her disappearance, hundreds of read detachment soldiers helped comb the woods of Liberty County for any sign of her.

"Lori had the toughest job in the American military. She was an Army wife," stated Reverend David Daus of the Gum Branch Baptist Church. "However, she was proud of that job and she reached out to so many in their Family Readiness Group."

One of those military friends stood with her daughters to read the heart-felt words they'd written. She also expressed her own grief.

"If you knew her, you loved her. There was no way you couldn't. We love ya girl. You are with us in our hearts forever," Paula Robinson stated.

Younger riders stood and called Lori a second mother who mentored them around horses and beyond. Tears flowed through the church over Lori's disappearance and murder. One minister said mourners cannot consume themselves with asking why.

"First, We probably will never get that answer and second, it probably would not take your pain away," Reverend Daus cautioned.

Her sister also spoke and urged everyone there to never take loved ones for granted because they could lose them as quickly as they lost Lori.

The man accused in Lori's death, Kenneth Lumpkin, remains in jail charged with murder.
