SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Step Up Savannah's annual meeting and breakfast this year will focus on what South Carolina is doing to address its affordable housing crisis.
Michelle Mapp of the Lowcountry Housing Fund will be the featured speaker at the event, which takes place from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Oct. 14 at Savannah Technical College.
Nearly half or 40 percent of Savannah residents spend far more than 30 percent of their household income on paying rent or a mortgage.
Mapp will discuss how this innovative nonprofit provides a dedicated source of funding for the production and preservation of affordable housing and the effects it has on economic development and the community.
Step Up Savannah will also present its report to the community and congratulate the 2010 winner of Step Up's business award, the Workplace Innovator Award.
