Oatland Island's bison Doris dies

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Oatland Island Wildlife Center's 19-year-old female bison has died.

Doris the bison died on Oct. 4 from a ruptured uterus secondary to a uterine infection, which is an ailment common to aging bison, according to results from a necropsy performed by Oatland's veterinarian, Dr. Lesley Mailler.

The bison arrived at the center in 1991 when she was 3 months old. Doris helped educate students and guests about bison and brought joy to those who visited the Oatland Island Wildlife Center.
