SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah firefighters kept an early morning apartment fire from spreading. Fire crews responded at about 4 a.m. Thursday to Hibiscus Avenue, on the city's east side. They found heavy black smoke pouring from a duplex.
Firefighters attacked the flames from inside and outside the home. They were able to contain the fire to the bedroom, but the rest of the home suffered smoke damage. A couple living there got out unharmed and they are being helped by the American Red Cross. The adjoining apartment was not damaged.
"We had a room and contents fire. The occupants were out here. It seems the fire was contained to the bedroom. No injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation at this time," said Battalion Chief Kenny Rentier.
