Motorcade transports body of fallen Army Ranger

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - An American hero returns Thursday morning to Hunter Army Airfield one final time.

Army Ranger Sgt. 1st Class Lance Vogeler was killed last week during combat operations in Afghanistan.

He joined the military in 2001, before Sept. 11, 2001. Since then he has been to Afghanistan seven times and Iraq twice. Vogeler's deaf parents, Tim and Donna, relayed through his brother, Chris, just how wonderful their son was.

"My son, I loved that little boy. We're very proud of him," said Tim Vogeler.

"He showed a lot of love. He loved to help people. He is a very joyful man. He's a great son," Donna Vogeler said.

The motorcade to the funeral home left Wilson Gate and traveled south on Stephenson Avenue to Hodgson Memorial Drive and then east until it arrived at Fairhaven Funeral Home.
