Fire in Downtown Savannah

Savannah firefighters battled a blaze in the downtown area of Savannah, just after 5:30am. Someone spotted smoke and large flames coming from the corner of Bryan and Drayton Streets. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen area of Churchill's bar, then spread to the rest of the building. By the time firefighters arrived, the bar was engulfed in flames and they were spreading to an antique shop next door.

"The alarm company called me and said there is an alarm going off and multiple zones had been activated, and we thought it was an intruder, till I drove down Drayton and saw the lights," said Andrew Holmes, owner of Churchill's.

Savannah police blocked off an area around the fire scene while firefighters went to work putting out that blaze. It appears the fire also damaged a portion of a nearby three-story SCAD building and the six-story Bryan Street Garage.

Savannah firefighters are trying to find out the cause of the early morning blaze.
