Man falls and gets stuck in sewer tank

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A homeless man gets stuck in a city sewer tank!

It happened around 8 p.m. Saturday evening on Clinch Street, just off of Mills B. Lane Boulevard on Savannah's west side.

Savannah firefighters say the man broke into a sewage facility and was trying to get away when he fell roughly 30 feet into the tank.

Rescuers had to lower themselves into the tank to get the man out.

HAZMAT was also called to the scene.

"He fell all the way, a good 20 to 30 feet. A lot of scrapes and bruises. Wouldn't be surprised at fractures, but we just packaged him up and got him out of the hole." said Captain Mike Dick of the Savannah Fire Department.

Firefighters did get the man out, then had to decontaminate him and the entire area.

The man was taken to a near by hospital, he's expected to be okay.

No word if he'll face any charges.
