SC to mark 150th anniversary of Civil War's start

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Tourism leaders say the eyes of the world will be on South Carolina as the state commemorates the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.

South Carolina lawmakers took a boat to Fort Sumter to talk about plans for the observance. The first shots of the war were fired there in April 18-61. Charleston tourism officials say history is the No. 1 reason visitors come to Charleston and they hope the Civil War observance will provide an economic boost.

Events range from lectures to a planned commemoration of the first shots of the war.
