Crews finish concrete work on WWII Monument site

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – River Street has been closed most of the morning as construction continues on the World War II Memorial.

The foundation is already in place that will hold the two halves of the globe. Crews have been working hard to pour more cement, putting in steps, a wheelchair ramp and sidewalks. The globe's two pieces are expected to arrive next week. River Street is scheduled to reopen right about now.

"What we are doing today is we are pouring the sub-bases for the walkways. This will be the last concrete pour that we will make. We have already poured the foundation for the monument, and we have the got monument scheduled to move in next week," William Roadwalt, the project manager.

The Veterans Council still needs help paying for the monument. Click here to make a donation.
