Ga. high court hears challenge on charter school law

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Georgia's highest court is hearing the first ever legal challenge to the state's charter school law on Tuesday.

Seven public school districts including Bulloch and Candler counties are hoping to convince the Georgia Supreme Court that a superior court judge was wrong to rule in may that the Georgia charter schools commission is constitutional and is not breaking any laws.

The districts say the commission is taking their funding illegally and giving it to charter schools.

Other districts in the lawsuit are Gwinnett County, Dekalb County Atlanta public schools, Henry and Griffin-Spalding schools.
