SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Artists and construction crews worked on the giant globe spheres for the World War II memorial monument.
The group spent the day cleaning the spheres and putting another coat of lacquer on them. The bronzed sphere's symbolize the two parts of World War II, the European and the Pacific Theaters.
"The globes are designed to be about 10-feet apart. So you walk between them and there will be 8-foot-high granite walls, with the names etched in the granite, of the people who died in World War II who are from this area," said Kim Brandell for Eastern Excavation.
The spheres will be moved to the monument site early Monday morning. The city of Savannah will be closing down River Street starting at 7 a.m.
