SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Memorial University Medical Center is rated No. 1 in Georgia for stroke care and is best rated in the Savannah area for cardiac, pulmonary and critical care services, according a health care ratings organization.
The analysis, which was conducted by HealthGrades, ranked Memorial among the top 10 percent nationally for stroke care and gastrointestinal medical services, according to results published in the Thirteenth Annual HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study.
The study analyzed approximately 40 million Medicare patients from every U.S. hospital from 2007 to 2009. HealthGrades looked at patient outcomes, mortality rates, and complication rates, and assigned 1 star (poor), 3 stars (as expected), or 5 stars (best) to hospitals in 26 categories, from bypass surgery to knee replacement to treatment for heart attack.
Memorial earned 5 stars for the treatment of heart failure, stroke, pneumonia, sepsis, respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleed, spinal fusion surgery and bowel obstruction.
