Some three dozen soldiers out of Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield gave the ultimate sacrifice during operation Iraqi Freedom. Now there's some help coming to their families. The Fallen Patriot Fund has raised money to help out families who lost their loved ones in the war.
Chanel Pedersen is one of the newly widowed spouses who will be getting help. She's now raising her seven-year-old daughter alone after her husband Sgt. Michael Pederson was killed during a Black Hawk helicopter crash.
"It's one way of us knowing there are average Americans out there who are willing to step up to the plate and say, 'We feel your loss and this is what we're doing for you, '" said Chanel.
This has been a difficult time for these families, but community support is helping them get through this. They say the Fallen Patriot Fund shows that their loved ones may be gone but not forgotten. You can find more information on how to help on the Fallen Patriot Fund's website .
