Another round of debate over the proposed port terminal in Jasper County has ended up in court one more time, this time in the South Carolina Supreme Court. The issue has Georgia and South Carolina at odds.
Jasper County wants to build a $400 million port terminal, but the Georgia Department of Transportation owns the land and won't sell. The DOT says the Army Corps of Engineers needs the land to dump dredge from the Savannah River.
In April of 2002, the court ruled that Jasper County had the right to condemn the land. The DOT appealed the ruling yesterday. The judge will make a decision within the next two months.
