Lord knows, our nation is in critical condition, which we must all vote to reverse on November 2nd. But insufficient trauma resources, especially in Greater Central and South Georgia, put state health, too, in critical condition. While we're blessed to have a top-level trauma facility, here, at Memorial Health, the state needs far more trauma centers, and far-better funding for existing sites that continue to bleed red-ink.
Fact: Trauma injuries are the #1 cause of death, ages 1-to-44, and the 3rd cause of death overall. Whether by vehicles, weapons, or other mishaps, Georgia's death rate from traumatic-injury is much-higher than the national average, when it should be far lower. Of Georgia's six-thousand trauma-related deaths, annually, more than 10% could be saved, if trauma-treatment begins within the critical "golden hour" for adults, and the even more critical, "golden half-hour" for kids. Access to trauma care improves survival, decreases long-term disability, and gets folks back to work. On November 2nd, you'll be able to solve our trauma care dilemma by voting YES on Constitutional Amendment #2, which guarantees the funding goes solely to trauma care in Georgia. This dramatic cure will cost state vehicle tag holders just 10-dollars a year. If you can afford a motor vehicle, you can afford 10-bucks. And, it's NOT a tax. It's a painless investment to reduce the real family-pain of stricken Georgians. Let's be frank. If you vote against, or don't vote at all, over 10-bucks, you're expressing your indifference or contempt for saving Georgia lives. So give a darn. Vote YES on Amendment #2 to expand critically-needed trauma care resources in Georgia. Vote as if you and your family's lives depended on it. They very well might.
