SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Savannah Fire and Emergency Services says a suspicious piece of mail found Tuesday morning did not contain biological, radiological or explosive components.
SFES and authorities wrapped up and hour-long investigation of a suspicious piece of mail at the federal building complex at 222 W. Oglethorpe Ave.
Savannah fire responded at about 9:30 a.m. on a report of a suspicious substance near the corner of Whitaker and York streets. They monitored air quality and used specialized instruments to analyze the envelope, according to SFES.
They determined the substance was non-hazardous and air quality showed no elevated levels of any harmful substances. The envelope and its contents were turned over to federal authorities.
Savannah-Chatham metro police blocked off the streets. Hazmat and the bomb squad responded as well.
