SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) – Movie and television actor James Cromwell will be in Savannah this week to celebrate the World War II Memorial A World Apart.
Cromwell, who has starred in "The General's Daughter", "The Sum of All Fears", "Queen", "Babe", "The West Wing", "24" and recently released "Secretariat", is the celebrity guest of the Grand Remembrance Gala.
Cromwell is raising the final $180,000 of the $1 million campaign to complete the memorial and celebrate its dedication at the Celebration Gala.
The event takes place at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Harborside Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Gala attendees will be among the first to view the finished WWII Memorial located on River Street adjacent to the Harborside Room. They will be able to personally meet Cromwell, local dignitaries and honored veterans.
A World Apart, which stands 20 feet high, is a steel globe clad with copper is overlaid with bronze land masses and islands. The globe is divided into two parts, representing the Eastern/European Theater and the Western/Pacific Theater. Visitors will be able to walk between the two parts, which will display the names of the local men and women whose lives were lost in World War II.
