Driver charged after construction worker hit

BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - A Hilton Head Island was arrested on charges of driving under the influence early Tuesday morning.

Police said Randolph Wiggins, 28, was driving a Ford pickup truck headed southbound from U.S. Highway 278 on Simmonsville Road when he hit Georgia Rivers, a construction worker who was directing traffic, and a trailer with stationary lights.

Police arrived at the scene at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Rivers suffered minor injuries and was taken to Coastal Carolina Hospital. He was released later that morning.

Wiggins was arrested and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, where he's awaiting a bond hearing.
