City of Savannah to get new ferry

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A North Carolina company has won a $1.5 million contract to build a passenger ferry for the City of Savannah. Custom Steel Boats, Inc. will build a 149 passenger vessel to ferry riders from River Street to the International Trade and Convention Center.

Officials say the project is being paid for with federal economic stimulus money and a U.S. Transportation Department grant.

The ferry is expected to be completed next September.
