Veteran to be featured on CBS Evening News

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A Coastal Empire man is getting some national attention.

Walt Peters is a Vietnam veteran who plays with his band to raise money to buy American flags for departing and returning soldiers. CBS Evening News with Katie Couric got wind of his efforts and came down Monday to film him for their series, American Spirit.

"He is passionate in his support of our military members and their families. He wakes up in the morning thinking about soldiers and families, and I think he goes to bed thinking about them," said Robin Wingate, executive director of the Savannah Red Cross.

The series is set to air sometime in the next few weeks.
