PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) – The YMCA of Beaufort County has received a $10,000 grant from YMCA of the USA to provide low-income families the ability to participate in boating and fishing.
The funds will also be used to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and conserving aquatic resources. Y-USA is the resource office for YMCAs nationwide. The grant is one of 20 awarded to YMCAs across the country by Y-USA as part of a $250,000 grant from the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation.
The grant will be used to get children involved in conservation education and outdoor recreational activities; provide training for teen counselors, staff and volunteers to teach and championconservation, fishing and boating; and improve the health and well-being of participants by inspiring them to be active outdoors, according to the YMCA of Beaufort County.
