Savannah Gardens breaks ground on Wednesday

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - City of Savannah leaders, Mercy Housing and the Community Housing Services Agency Development Inc. will celebrate the groundbreaking of a new mixed-income environmentally friendly housing development.

The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Pennsylvania Avenue near W. Crescent Drive.

Savannah Gardens will have 310 affordable apartments, 40-50 senior designated apartments, 120 single family homes and a commecial town center.

Savannah Gardens aims to obtain the EarthCraft Coastal Community certification. The community will feature ample green space, bike paths and connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods. The design will invlude smart meters and geothermal heating system that city officials learned about during their visit to Sweden last fall.
