SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Savannah Wedding Tourism Council is honoring veterans by providing free wedding ceremonies for active duty service members.

Many businesses are stepping up to help make their special day perfect.

"They give to us greatly and how can we say thank you," said Executive Director, Weddings for Warriors Becky Byos. "It's difficult to say thank you."

To show her appreciation to our service members Byous is making sure every detail down the wedding dress is perfect and free of charge for their special day.

"We learned through doing this we can say thank to the person to the military, to their family members and it's a way they really feel like they've been thanked," said Byous.

It's a once in a lifetime experience that is being made possible by the Savannah Wedding Tourism Council.

"Most of the couples like many in the military, they marry in a hurry," said Byous. "They run to the courthouse in their t-shirt and jeans. We hear the stories over and over, they never quite get to have the wedding and we have been able happily to provide them the opportunity."

Tuesday night, the couples will enjoy a rehearsal party held at the Mackey House. It's a chance for the bride and grooms-to-be to meet each other and the volunteers that are making their dream wedding a reality.

"This is a great way to get everybody even more excited for what is to come tomorrow, which is the big wedding for warriors in the downtown Savannah area, and we are happy to be apart of that," said Laura Mackey.

The various members of the Savannah Wedding Tourism Council are excited take part in of one of the most important days of these couples lives, when the 21 service members say "I do" during the dream wedding they truly deserve.

There will be a second Wedding for Warriors in December on Tybee Island. This year the wedding day is split to help cater to the 3rd Infantry Division service men and women that are just now redeploying.
