HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC) - New housing for soldiers and their families is on the way to Fort Stewart. On Tuesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held highlighting the creation of a new neighborhood on base called Marne View.
The community will be made up of 92 homes for officers as well as 24 new homes for senior non-commissioned officers. The homes will consist of three or four bedrooms with open floor plans. In addition three new playgrounds will be added to the amenities already offered for the families.
"This is a good welcome home for the troops because what we want to say to the troops is while you're gone we're going to take care of your family, and when you come home we want you to have a nice place to return to," said U. S. Representative Jack Kingston.
Since 2003, nearly 3,000 homes have been built or renovated on base.
