SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - An early-morning fire and smoke destroys an apartment unit on Savannah's west side.
Savannah Fire and Emergency Services firefighters were called just after 7:20 a.m. to the Frazier Homes neighborhood on a report of fire in one of the complex's apartments.
Firefighters saw observed smoke from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and discovered flames emitting from an upstairs apartment on West Gwinnett Court.
Firefighters limited the fire damage to the kitchen area of the apartment, where it's believed the fire originated, according to SFES. Heavy smoke resulted in the unit being uninhabitable.
Firefighters say the flames did not reach surrounding apartments. The vacant apartment directly below had some minor water damage during the fire.
No one was home at the and there were no injuries.
Housing Authority of Savannah officials are working with the displaced family to move them into another apartment, according to SFES. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family with other needs.
