Bed and Breakfast Inns host Veterans

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - As a show of appreciation for our veterans, six bed and breakfast inns are offering a free night stay.

Several military families, like Craig Ford's, will wake up on Veterans day in a cozy room at the Azalea Inn and Gardens compliments of the owners of this Savannah Bed and Breakfast.

"I think it is good to show our veterans that they appreciate the service and sacrifice," said Ford.

It's part of a nationwide project that is giving military veterans a free night's lodging for Veterans day. When owner Teresa Jacobson heard of the project she didn't hesitate to open her doors.

"They only asked that every inn across the United States give away one room to a vet," said Jacobson. "This is important enough to me that I decided I needed to give my entire inn to the vets."

It didn't take long for the rooms to fill up, "When this campaign came out our phones rang off of the hook, emails came flying in and we ended with long waiting lists and I'm hoping this will inspire more inns next year to step up with us and accommodate more and say thank you in louder voice," said Jacobson.

Five other Savannah bed and breakfast inn's are also hosting Veterans Wednesday night.

"I think it is deserved and I am glad these inns believe in what I believe," said Jacobson.

She understands veterans' sacrifices. Jacobson served in the military, and comes long line of military service members.

"I think that our veterans give much more than anybody ever stops to think about, so I wanted to do something."

It's a chance for Jacobson to show some southern hospitality and her appreciation for the sacrifice our veterans have made.

The bed and breakfast will hold a wine reception Wednesday night for the veterans to show their appreciation.
